    Description

    Job SummaryProvides direct patient care, effectively utilizing the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes. Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team led by the Emergency Department Physician to meet the individualized need of the patient and family. Will practice within the parameters of the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act and Anderson Hospital policies and procedures. Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards.

    Job Responsibilities:

     

    1. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes.
    2. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
    3. Completes focused and ongoing assessments and documentation.
    4. Completed pain assessment—ongoing and after intervention.
    5. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity.
    6. Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation. Documents readiness to learn, teaching, barriers and outcomes.
    7. Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner, according to hospital policies and procedures.
    8. Engages in activities to expand and/or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice. Expected to participate on committees, projects, as a preceptor and as charge when requested.
    9. Provides leadership and autonomy in the professional practice setting and the profession.
    10. Utilizes chain of command.
    11. Maintains calm manner during abrupt changes in acuity and/or unit activity.

    Qualifications

    Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

     

    Education Level:

    Graduate of accredited nursing program

    Certification/Licensure:

    Illinois licensed or eligible

    CPR required

    ACLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC, ECRN preferred

     

    Experience Requirements:

    Prior Emergency Department experience or other critical care environment preferred

     

    Education Requirements:

    Orientation, Annual competency standards, mandatory training and unit specific education

    Will complete above credentialing as scheduling and availability of courses affords

     

    Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or sin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
