    Job SummaryPerforms basic duties to all age patients in the Emergency Department under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse.

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Uses effective communication skills with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families and visitors.
    2. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
    3. Duties may include but not limited to phlebotomy, transporting patients, obtain vital signs, ekg’s, splinting, catheter placement and other patient care task as assigned.
    4. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity.
    5. Maintains the patient’s environment to include appropriate equipment and supplies at all times.
    6. Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment. Maintains supplies and instruments.
    7. Assists in maintaining a clean unit. Responsible for cleaning and set up of patient rooms.
    8. Completes documentation accurately and timely, according to hospital policies and procedures.
    9. Utilizes chain of command.
    10. Maintains calm manner during abrupt changes in acuity and/or activity.
    11. Recognizes own limitations and seeks assistance when necessary.
    12. Is flexible with scheduling when necessary.
    13. Reports defective equipment promptly, completing appropriate forms.

    Qualifications

    Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

    Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Certification/Licensure: BLS required.

    Experience Requirements: Patient Care Technician experience in a hospital setting. EMT, EMT-P or CNA experience preferred.

    Working Conditions:

    Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
