From Mike Farinella, Allstate Agent
A friend of Lonnie's who works for me, was driving home in Collinsville, and saw a house that was on fire. She said something told her to stop and knock on the door. So she did and woke up the family. They all got out safely. But their house burned to the ground and they lost everything. They did not have any insurance, and are not a well to do family. So we thought that we would try to do what we can for them. I was wondering if you could send out something asking local business to give what they can to help this family.
We have opened up our Allstate office as a drop off location so that we can help this family!

Relay for Life of Troy Wants You
Wanted: Individuals and teams interested in joining the fight against cancer!
The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life celebrated 25 years of Hope in 2009, and local volunteers are working to organize another exciting event in 2010.
We want you to be a part of this exciting celebration by joining us for the 10th annual Relay For Life of Troy.
Relay will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 11, and will go overnight until 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 12. The celebration will once again take place at Tri-Township Park in Troy.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that organizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors (anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones and raise money to support the fight against cancer.
Teams of 8 to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fund-raising walk in the nation. Entertainment is provided throughout the night, and teams participate in various activities to symbolize the battle cancer patients must face during the late-night hours.
Relay For Life brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, churches and anyone in the community interested in celebrating life and fighting cancer while having a great time.
One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. The money raised at Relay saves lives by funding cutting-edge research, early detection and prevention education, advocacy efforts and life-affirming patient services.
It is because of volunteer involvement and dedication that we are able to save lives, help those battling cancer and empower all to fight back against the disease.
The American Cancer Society needs you to help organize this terrific event. A variety of personalities and talents are needed.
If you enjoy working in your community, team recruitment or corporate sponsorship might be a good fit. Perhaps assisting our candlelight ceremony would allow you to honor a loved one lost. Or maybe gathering friends, family members or co-workers and forming a team is more your style.
Every person counts in the fight against cancer. Please attend the Volunteer Interest Meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tri-Township Park, Community Center Upper Level in Troy or contact your ACS staff partner Christine Hopper by writing (American Cancer Society; #5 Schiber Ct.; Maryville, IL 62062), by email at Christine.Hopper@cancer.org, or by calling (618) 288-2320 opt. #3 to find out ways you or your organization can help plan or raise funds for this event.

Read, Run and Right Marathon
I am the PE teacher at St. Jacob and Marine Elementary in the Triad School District. We are starting a new program called the Read, Run, and Right Marathon. To complete the marathon, each child will need to read 26 books, run 26 miles, and do 26 good deeds. At the end of the school year, we are having a celebration at Triad Middle School for everyone that completed their marathon and would like to give T-shirts to everyone that completed the marathon. The estimated cost for a shirt is around $4. We have 150 students at Marine and 207 students at St. Jacob. I am figuring about 300 students total between the 2 schools will complete the marathon. I understand that is a lot of money for T-shirts but any help that you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! Amy Sheehan

Seeking Clerical Position
Wanted--part time clerical position. This position is part of the cooperative education program at Triad High School. The student must work at least 10 hours a week to qualify for co-op credit. The student is available to work weekday afternoons after 12:30 p.m. As an employer you will be required to complete a short evaluation 4 times a year. The student's current employer is reorganizing and her position will be eliminated by the end of the year. The evaluations from her current employer are excellent--this situation in no way reflects on her or her clerical abilities. If you would like more information about the co-op program or the student please contact Pat Packard, Co-op teacher, Triad High School at 667-5409, ext. 7240.
